We know that this space has had a complicated history. Whether you remember us as Papa Don or Dipping Dumplings, or just as that spot that always seemed to be closed, we get it. The inconsistency, the shutdowns—it’s fair to wonder if we’ll actually stick around this time.

So let’s talk.

The reality is, we’ve faced some unexpected hurdles, from building violations that were out of our control to the need for a full rebrand. But through it all, we’ve never stopped believing in the potential of this place. More importantly, we believe in this community.

Astoria Dumpling is our fresh start, and we’re doing things differently. That means consistent hours, quality food, and a team that’s here to stay. No surprises, no disappearing acts—just great dumplings and a commitment to being a reliable part of the neighborhood.

1. What happened to Dipping Dumplings and Papa Don?

This space has had a complicated past. Papa Don was a well-loved Indonesian pancake and boba shop, but unfortunately, it couldn’t sustain itself financially. Dipping Dumplings followed but faced inconsistency, long wait times, and unexpected shutdowns—including one due to a building violation that existed before we even took over (the Department of Buildings gave us a violation for our awning although it existed and was approved 5 years prior, while we fought, we legally couldn't be open, we gave in and removed it)

With Astoria Dumpling, we’re starting fresh—new management, new vision, and a real commitment to doing this right.

2. What’s different this time?

A lot. Astoria Dumpling is under completely new management, meaning new leadership, a dedicated team, and a focus on quality, consistency, and reliability.

3. Will you actually stay open this time?

Yes. We know this location’s past has made people hesitant, and we don’t take that lightly. This isn’t a short-term experiment—we are here to stay. Our goal is to grow fast and build something lasting in Astoria.

4. What kind of food will you serve?

Our specialty is handmade dumplings, they're made locally with care and quality ingredients. We’re focusing on perfecting our craft and providing a simple, delicious, and consistent menu you can count on. Our 6 signature flavors are straight firrrre! But the dumplings are really good with just a splash of soy too!

5. Why should I give you a chance?

We get it—you’ve seen this space change hands before. But we’re not here to repeat the past. We're close friends with the orignal owners at Papa Don and wish the team that ran Dipping all the best. But, we’re here to build something better, something lasting. The best way to see the difference is to stop by, try our food, and experience it for yourself.
